The core ingredients besides the wonderful and energizing guarana berry, are juice from organic grapefruit and ginger. Both not from concentrate. This creates a powerful but balanced taste which is sure to wake you up, if that is what you need. Combined with organic sugar, we’ve created what we believe is the taste of real natural energy.

We believe the most reliable sources for boosting energy in mind and body to be caffeine and the right combination of sugars. Both in balance with long term well-being.

High level of caffeine

The guarana berry provides a clean and natural source of caffeine. Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system in a way, that when consumed in the right amounts, promotes alertness and concentration, which can result in improved mental performance and cognitive capacities. OE contains 32 mg/100 ml which is the maximum allowed in Denmark.

Long lasting increase in blood sugar

As different sugars have different digestion rates they’re also absorbed in the blood at various speeds and hence converted to energy at different rates. With this in mind, we have designed the sugar and carbohydrates in OE to release a sound and steady supply of sugars to the bloodstream, resulting in balanced and sustained energy boost and better endurance.

Long term anti-inflammatory effects

The starting point for every productive day is a body in balance. Joint and muscular pain, overuse injuries and weakened immune system are all connected to inflammation in the body. Consuming anti inflammatory food is proven to counteract this and ginger is known for it’s powerful anti-inflammatory substances, gingerols.

The 25cl OE contains approx. the same ginger as 4cl standard danish ginger shot.

Why?

The Organic Energy Project is determined to prove that the future of energy drinks is organic, well tasting and every bit as energizing as synthetic products.

After introducing Maté Maté and yerba maté as a natural source of caffeine to the Danish market, we went back to the lab and challenged ourselves to come up with the perfect natural energy drink.

As customers we are used to craft beer, craft soda, high quality juices and iced tea. But when it comes to energy drinks the market is dominated by sugary and synthetic products with flavors impossible to tell apart.

That is why we have spent a year and a half studying the consumption of energy drinks and matching consumer expectations of functionality and taste with the natural ingredients at our disposal.

The result is a well tasting and refreshing organic energy drink which leaves no doubt that it’s solely from a natural origin. At the same time it has a wide range of functionality, with ginger and acai providing long term benefits (link til content) and a caffeine level from organic guarana fruit (link til content) that reaches the limit set by the Department of Health.

Staying true to the challenge, we spent the first phase of the development searching for raw materials to create a powerful organic energy drink. We found inspiration in natural products from all over the world as well as experimenting with yet unused sources capable of providing the necessary natural energy.

But our main effort was uncovering the uniqueness in the ‘concept of energy drinks’ and why so many attempts to change the category for the better have failed.

To succeed, the project needs to not only deliver on energy, vitamins and great taste: The core issue is to deliver on the predefined expectations connected to energy drinks, and how taste, consumption, functionality and brand must be aligned.

For us, co-creation was the best answer to this challenge. In June 2017 after creating a base on guarana fruit, lemon, acai and organic sugar, we engaged more than 200 people in a three day long workshop in the meatpacking district of Copenhagen. Everything from the level of sugar to taste and design was up for discussion and each day, we inched closer towards a final recipe.

The final product we present today is directly based upon the recipe we found together with the participants of the co-creation workshop.

Traditionally energy drinks has been perceived as a marriage of synthetic powders,  artificial flavourants, added vitamins and little transparency on ingredients and how they affect your body.

We believe in an alternative: When consumer goods aims to affect body processes, we must really understand the ingredients, where they come from and what they do.

We also believe that the most reliable sources for boosting energy in mind and body to be caffeine combined with the right combination of sugars. Both in balance with long term well-being. With organic and natural ingredients, OE provides just that:

  • High level of caffeine – purely from organic guarana fruit
  • Persistent increase in blood sugar – all from organic sources
  • Natural ingredients proven to have anti-inflammatory effects

High level of caffeine

The guarana berry provides a natural source of caffeine. From our research, it is by far the most efficient and natural, way to obtain the right amounts of the stimulant. Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system in a way that when consumed in the right amounts, promotes alertness and concentration, which can result in improved mental performance and cognitive capacities. OE contains 32mg/100ml which is the maximum allowed in Denmark.

Persistent increase in blood sugar

Sugar is essentially the fuel of the body. As different sugars have different digestion rates they’re also absorbed in the blood at various speeds and hence converted to energy at different rates. With this in mind, we have designed the sugar and carbohydrates in OE to release a sound and steady supply of sugars to the bloodstream, resulting in balanced and sustained energy boost and better endurance.

Furthermore a selection of grapefruit, ginger and açaí were chosen to load OE with amino acids and antioxidants, to help the body’s blood sugar regulation (insulin)

Long term anti-inflammatory effects

The starting point for every productive day is a body in balance. That’s why OE with a selection of organic ingredients wants to contribute to a long term well being and provides a range of antioxidants, vitamins and amino acids to do so.

Joint and muscular pain, overuse injuries due to hard work or exercise,  a weakened immune system are all connected to inflammation in the body. Consuming anti inflammatory food and beverages is proven to counteract this.

  • Ginger is known for it’s powerful anti-inflammatory substances, gingerols. The 25cl OE contains approx. the same ginger as a 4cl standard danish ginger shot.
  • Thanks to its high content of fatty acids, Açaí berries are also considered an anti-inflammatory food.
  • Grapefruit contains bioactive compounds, flavonoids and furanocoumarin, possess cancer fighting and anti-inflammatory capabilities.

NB: No added B-vitamins!

You’ll find no added B-vitamins in The Organic Energy Product – as otherwise is the case in most popular conventional energy drinks.

Since the clear majority of people without extreme diets wont lack B3, B6 and B12, consumption of high concentration of B-vitamins from energy drinks won’t give the promised boost in concentration, but literally be flushed down the toilet, along with the drink’s claims.

We all need an extra energy boost from time to time. In fact, a major Danish study have shown that everyday activities such as studying, work, exams and business deadlines are by far a more frequent reason to consume energy drinks than sport and exercise*.

Since energy drinks have become an everyday product, it’s time to raise our expectations regarding how products affect our bodies and create a better balance between short term energy boosts and long term well being.

Equally important – and long overdue –  we must improve the taste of energy drinks and start using high quality natural ingredients. Just like the standards are being raised for food and beverages in general.

Today some drink coffee. Some consume conventional energy drinks. We believe most of us prefer to have a cold, refreshing and equally energizing alternative, that doesn’t compromise great taste or natural ingredients.
